Features
Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) Dynamic Stereo Sampling
The piano sound is a sampling from one Yamaha Full Concert Grand Piano "CFIIIS", which has won high acclaim at the world's most famous concert halls and music competitions. The best piano was selected, and an experienced tuner adjusted it to ensure it was in top condition. Sampling is carefully performed over a long period, from when the sound starts until it fades out, to reproduce a natural sound and attenuation not commonly seen in digital pianos. In addition, they also focus on the change in timbre due to the strength or weakness of the key strike that is unique of acoustic pianos. Sound sampling covered more than 10 stages of key strike strength for each keyboard. The Yamaha development team spent a lot of time together with pianists in thorough pursuit of the optimum touch and timbre combination, resulting in the achievement of natural sound changes that sound like a person is actually playing a grand piano, no matter how the keyboard is played.
New acoustic system reproduces clearer, more voluminous sound
Using a new amp, the "Tone Escape" outlet for sound coming from the back of the keyboard has been widened, creating a clearer piano sound with increased volume.
128-note Polyphony
Featuring 128-note polyphony, the YDP-161 allows the performance of dense passages even when layering sounds via the Dual Voice feature. Yamaha's technology ensures there is no unnatural sound cut-off even during heavy sustain pedal usage so no notes are lost during performance.
Half-pedal response widens the range of expression
Yamaha focuses on the expressive power of pedaling. Three pedals are attached to the cabinet: damper, soft, and sostenuto. The damper pedal offers a half-pedal response that can handle micro-adjustments of its strength, depending on how hard the pedal is pressed.
Grade Hammer (GH) Keyboard offers quality and a natural playing feel
Yamaha, using its extensive grand piano-making expertise, created a keyboard that offers a natural playing feel. Just as on a traditional acoustic piano, lower notes on a GH keyboard have a heavier touch, while the higher ones are more responsive to lighter playing. With stability and endurance in response to any kind of performance, it offers the security and quality expected of Yamaha keyboards.
50 preset piano songs and a music book
A selection of 50 popular piano songs and a music book are included. Enjoy as background music, or learn how to play the music by adjusting to a slower tempo. You can even mute one part of the music to help practice that hand.
2-track/1-song recorder
The easy to use, built-in 2-track recorder lets you capture your music and plays it back. Play both hands together and use the second track to add a different part. Or play one part at a time and rehearse complicated pieces. You can also transfer recorded songs to your computer using Yamaha’s free Music Downloader software [http://www.yamahamusicsoft.com/en/msd_download/intro] for storage, further editing or displaying your performance as music notation.
Volume control allows micro-adjustments when practicing at low volumes
The Yamaha volume control knob allows for precise adjustment at low volume levels.
Filled with convenient functions expected of a digital piano
The YDP-161 never requires tuning or any other service required by an acoustic piano. It also comes with two headphone jacks so you can play any time of day or night. There’s also a built-in metronome essential for practicing, a headphone hanger, and many more convenient features.
Music Software Downloader lets you transfer purchased music data to the instrument
Use the Yamaha free software Music Software Downloader1 to transfer music data on the PC (MIDI) to the instrument's built-in memory2… 1 Music Software Downloader is compatible with Windows only. 2 YDP-141 requires the USB-MIDI interface "UX-16" to transfer the files.
