Yamaha Corporation of America introduces the Limited Edition Black Phoenix instruments. Consisting of black-lacquer versions of 3 of the most popular Custom Z instruments, the Black Phoenix line celebrates 50 years of Yamaha here in the United States.
All of the instruments feature a new black-lacquering process that is used to achieve in-bell lacquering as well as custom engraved (hand engraved on the alto sax), modern interpretation of the original Yamaha phoenix logo from 1887 on the bell.
The Black Phoenix instruments will only be produced in 1 small production run. Quantities of 150 of the alto saxophone, 50 of the trumpet and 50 of the trombone will be available from authorized Yamaha dealers beginning in January 2009.

Body design
The 82Z features a two-piece hydro-formed bell. The body, bell, and bow are annealed
during production to make this horn more responsive and less resistant.
Mechanisms
The new mechanisms on the 82Z allow for faster action and easier repair.
Blue steel springs
The 82Z comes with blue steel springs for faster, more sensitive key response
and higher resiliency.
New case
The new 82Z comes equipped with a newly designed lightweight case that has a
shoulder strap.
