The classic Sihon wire mute is made of a nickel-plated steel spring wrapped in a clear, flexible rubber tube. The mute slides onto the strings between the bridge and the tailpiece allowing the player to adjust the placement for the desired sound/effect. By adjusting the placement of the mute, the player has a large array of possibilities with both dynamics as well as timbre.
