Honest Abe 14x6.5 Brass Snare Drum

Brass is a cherished metal in musical instrument making.

Brass is very similar to Copper but the addition of Zinc creates a material that’s much harder than Copper alone. Brass is a high mass metal that people use to make everything from bass guitar bridges to trombones to snare drums…… and for one simple reason. Brass makes overtones that us humans just really enjoy listening to. Perfect for instrument making.

Brass in drum building creates a drum with a strong fundamental pitch with a dense core of a note, a beautiful balanced overtone and an open airy top end. Its a sound that will never go out of style. Its somewhat of a chameleon material too, with head selection and tuning, a brass kit can do anything from a heavy metal show to a mellow Sunday brunch gig on the patio.

These Honest Abe Brass Drums are made from 260 Brass - which is 70% copper and 30% zinc - 2.4mm thick. This stuff is DENSE. These are some of the more “perfect” sounding drums under a microphone, and because of that, they can do many many things. These are Straight Walled Seamed Shells with Stainless Steel Locking Hardware. Get the classic Brass sound without the $1500+ price normally associated with it. These are not paper thin spun shells….. and these are not 1/4” thick cast shells. These are right up the middle, best of both worlds.  You might be surprised what these drums can do :) These drums love microphones, have a very pleasing and rich overtone and would be a great main snare for any drummer. Choose the depth that suits your playing and this could be a snare you play forever.
